Pinterest Projects

I seriously spend more time on Pinterest admiring, drooling and even getting inspired to re-create projects! But have I recreated any of them? Does making a copy-cat Olive Garden inspired salad count? Then no. I have not yet dipped my toes in the overwhelming world of Pinteresting. A girl can always dream and if I keep this up, that’s all I’m going to be doing. I looked up capsule wardrobe and found a few pins that were my style and was able to immediately curate outfits for work for a whole week! It’s working out great until now! I admire Audrey Hepburn. I love her timeless sense of style. As a minimalist, it’s effortlessly working and I have no problems keeping Audrey’s chic attire look. I can’t forget about my tomb boy days, which is always mixed in with my chic attire. 

Currently, I am looking into decorating my son’s room as minimalist as possible. I am still going through his toys and constantly making piles on which toy is going to make the cut to the donation pile. Not many were selected and the ones that were, I tell them how lucky and privileged they are. Talking to inanimate objects often soothes me. I get no lip from them. I want my son to have toys that he will appreciate and since he has less than 20 toys, he plays with them all! When it comes time to purchase him a toy, he will need to make the same executive decision to take one out and donate it to someone that will put it to good use. 

Another thing I am currently pinterested in is living room ideas. This makes me feel bad for the interior decorators out there trying to make a living. I wonder if they just go on Pinterest to gather up more ideas. Anyway, I digress. I saw some great sectional living room ideas since we purchased a sectional. I am also excited to put my camera into good use. I purchased a few picture frames at Target for $4 marked down from $12. Nothing excessive. Here is a list of my projects that I would like to accomplish before the year ends: 

Refurbish buffet table- This was my grandmother in law’s buffet table whom I never had the honor to meet. In many ways, I feel like I’ve known her through my mother in law and my husband. I’d like to keep the original white color by cleaning it up a bit and replacing the missing knobs to ones that are similar. This is an easy task! Just need to find the time. 

Paint night stands- Our master bedroom night stands has no sentimental background. I purchased it from an antique store, so I am certain there’s history behind it. Since it’s solid wood and requires little to no effort but to sand it down a bit. I am hoping to paint and spray paint the knobs or replace them. Again, finding the time to do this. 

Turn our $20 coffee table into an ottoman- again, this one has no sentimental value. I just recently purchased this larger-than-it-looks 4ft by 4ft hardwood ottoman for a steal! $20 for this beauty and had we were searching for a square coffee table, this would be “the one”. As you know, I digress. I’m hoping to paint the legs antique white and turning this awesome buy into an ottoman. Hoping to spend $100 or less for supplies. 

Garden- I would like to have a decent looking garden before the year ends. I have a black thumb and would need to probably get my little sister to give me the gift of keeping plants alive. This chica has flowers from Mother’s Day that are nicely re-blooming literally at her fingertips. I’d like to rip a page out of her book and make things happen before 2018. 

Pretty realistic wish list, I’d say! The husband has already mentioned that I’ve been a little handy woman lately. I think that was a complement. On top of all my upcoming crafty projects, I am also going to be cooking meals I’ve never cooked before. 
One thing I saw on Pinterest was a copy cat chipotle chicken with cilantro lime rice. That was our first dinner as a family in our new home. It was a great success! My husband has yet to call me a master chef because he still thinks he’s master chef! Hmm!

Restarting My Morning Routine

Hey there! As many of you know, my family and I have finally moved into our newly renovated home and what a fantastic feeling!

It has been a month now and we are down to one large box that belongs to my husband and about two small boxes that are mine, which I will be mostly getting rid of since I seem to careless for it.

With all this moving, unpacking and getting familiar with living in a larger space, I had lost my morning routine groove. I used to wake up, meditate, take my vitamins, write down five things I am grateful for, work out and eat breakfast. Now I just wake up and drink a cup of joe and head to work. I’m lucky if I get any food in my tummy in the a.m.

I didn’t realized how it has affected me until week two. I started to notice how sluggish I’ve been feeling and with even more responsibilities at work, I started to lose focus as well. I was more focus on other things with little to no energy left to take care of myself.

Getting back into a routine may sound easy to others, but it was tough for me. Here are eight simple routines that have worked and will need to get back on it:

  • Go to bed early- simple as that! Going to bed early will start the domino effect into a positive, clearer morning routine.
  • Wash your face- wake up and start your morning routine with a splash of cold water to perk you up a bit!
  • Meditate- meditating can be hard when your mind is cloudy and filled with so many thoughts. I started with five minutes a day again to get back in my groove and will eventually move back up to ten to fifteen minutes a day.
  • Work out- even if it’s for 20 minutes. Get your blood pumped!
  • Hot water with lemon- delicious, simple and good for you! I enjoy drinking hot water with lemon. It always starts off my morning right.
  • Eat breakfast- the healthy kind. A handful of dried cranberries and a few almonds won’t cut it for me. Oatmeal is delicious and good for you.
  • Journal- write down 3-5 things you’re grateful for. This always puts me in a good mood when I write. It releases a lot of the negative energy just by writing a few simple things I’m grateful for.
  • Take a shower and head to work!

Once this morning routine becomes a daily regiment, it’s going to get easier. With that being said, try changing up the work out routine or meditate longer or even adding another task into your daily routine. It won’t always be perfect, but as long as you’re in a positive mood with a clear mindset to start off the rest of your day, then you’re already one step ahead than most! Hope this helps!

Hey there! For the past six months I have been listening to this podcast by Meg tietz called sorta awesome! She and her co-host of the week will discuss everything from books, to food recipes, as well as life hacks and many more in between. Before they start the show they talk about their awesome of the week, which could be a dish that they have made and loved or an item they have purchased on amazon which have changed their lives in some way, shape or form. I truly enjoy listening to this show because not only are they are all ordinary women going through the daily cycle of life, but they are all inspiring super moms that I admire very much.
